This is the story of how what looked like a “Done Deal” went to the “Trump Shutdown” charade, in the span of a few Tweets, saying mean things about Donnie …

McConnell Files Continuing Resolution, Democrats Say They’ll Go Along

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is making it official: Congress plans to kick the contentious border wall spending debate until February.
The Kentucky Republican announced on the Senate floor that the next stopgap for the departments and agencies not already funded for the rest of the fiscal year would run through Feb. 8, 2019.
“Later this morning I’ll introduce a continuing resolution that will ensure continuous funding for the federal government,” McConnell said. “Even if the face of a great need to secure the border and following good-faith efforts by the president’s team, our Democratic colleagues rejected an extremely reasonable offer yesterday.”
“It would have cleared the remaining appropriations bills which have received bipartisan support in committee and provided an additional $1 billion to tackle a variety of urgent border security priorities,” the majority leader added.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York said that while it is not ideal, the short-term bill would be acceptable.

Then came this from Clown 1 — who dared to call Bully-1 “gutless” ...
Maybe I'm a literalist. A zealot. When people kept telling me to be patient -- the wall is coming! -- I nursed a private hope that I was wrong, and they were right.
It is now crystal clear that one of two things is true: Either Trump never intended to build the wall and was scamming voters all along, or he has no idea how to get it done and zero interest in finding out.
[...]
On the basis of his self-interest alone, he must know that if he doesn't build the wall, he has zero chance of being re-elected and a 100 percent chance of being utterly humiliated.
[...]
What else were we going to do? He was the only one talking sense. Unfortunately, that's all he does: talk. He's not interested in doing anything that would require the tiniest bit of effort.
In the end, we'll probably find out "wall" was Trump's "safe word" with Stormy Daniels. It's just something he blurts out whenever he's in trouble.
Then from the other end of Trump Clown parade, came this presidential badgering:
“The people in the White House cannot allow this,” [she] said of reports that Republicans are considering legislation to fund agencies at current levels, without any major changes, into next year, rather than passing appropriations bills. “They should not stand for this. Bring on the shutdown.
Then the King of Clowns uttered his water-carrying warnings:
[He] had "gotten word" to him that he would either be "getting funding to the border or he's shutting the whole thing down."
That was after [he] complained a day earlier that it appeared "Trump gets nothing and the Democrats get everything, including control of the House."
Finally the peanut-grinders whining away the Freedom-gallery chimed in:
“Stick to your guns, the North Carolina Republican told the president, according to a source familiar with the conversation. We conservatives will have your back. And now is the last best chance to fight.”
SOOOO, the “president of Mar-a-Lago” relented, heeding the calls of howling “base”. Afterall it’s these “fire-stirrers” are keeping him clinging onto his meager ratings mediocrity. As pathetic as they are.

- December 20: Trump flip-flops on the clean CR after listening to attacks from conservative TV pundits and the hardline House Freedom Caucus and announces that he will not sign a bill with no wall funding. House Republicans then pass a CR that includes $5.7 billion in wall funds.
- December 21: Trump demands the Senate vote for the House version of the CR and tells Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to get rid of the legislative filibuster in order to pass the vote with just GOP lawmakers, but the idea is a nonstarter. The Senate votes down the House version of the bill and the government moves closer to a shutdown at the midnight deadline.
One outgoing Senator and frequent Clown-critic put the “Trump Shutdown” debacle this way:
“This is tyranny of talk radio hosts, right? And so, how do you deal with that? You have two talk radio hosts who completely flipped the president. And so, do we succumb to tyranny of talk radio hosts?”
Well said, Mr. Get-out-of-Dodge, well said.
Yet here we are. Without a fully functioning Government, without a fully functioning Military.
Without a fully functioning White House.
It seems the Tyranny of the ‘Mean Clowns’ has won. Helluva way to run a Country.
Making America Break Again.
This America is what Republicans stand for. Happily, merrily. Have a queasy Holiday, chumps peasants.
