This is an Open Thread / Coffee Hour and all topics of conversation are welcome. What is for dinner? How are you doing? What is on your mind. If you are new to Street Prophets please introduce yourself below in a comment. This Coffee Hour series is brought to you by Words & Concepts For The Resistance.
Over the last few years I have been thinking just what words, concepts, and ideas bind the resistance together. And I’m wondering if our words should include the future. Resistance is such a static description. And often defines itself only by what it resists and not by what it creates.
One idea I had was calling it the 3Rs:
- Resistance
- Reconstruction (Third)
- Restoration
I wanted to call this article Words for the resistance, the third Reconstruction, and Restoration. But it just doesn’t roll off the tongue and there is not enough room in the title for it in a Coffee Hour diary.
As soon as I collect a fair number of contributions I plan to create a list or guide and publish it as a regular diary. Or, maybe create a Daily Kos group. Above is a experimental logo graphic for the group.
To get things started below the fold I’m sharing a few words, terms, and concepts that I think might be valuable to the resistance.
Everyone reading this are welcome to contribute the words or concepts that you would like to share.
This article is continued after the fold. The comments for this article are are after community links and its sub thread.
Please limit community links to one per user because we want to encourage greater diversity of submissions of community links from different users. In the case of a needed fundraiser, either the member in need will write a diary or someone will do it on their behalf. That diary is then linked to in the comments. Please only post community links in community links comment provided.

Questions To Ponder
- Should the list include Religious terms and concepts?
- Should the list include foreign language words?
- Should the list point out contested words that Republicans would prefer us to use?
- Did you know Daily Kos has a little used Political Encyclopedia called dKosopedia?
- What words or concepts would you like to add to the list?
