Ann (known here as winglion) wasn’t feeling well...hasn’t for a few days, actually. What felt to her like heartburn or even something akin to asthma was actually a blockage in her heart. She was complaining of pain in her hands and elbows. And last night, when I saw her leaning on the kitchen counter in pain, I insisted she call the advice nurse at our doctor’s office — and Ann didn’t argue.
The good news is, on the advice of the advice nurse, we called 911 last night and the paramedics got Ann hooked up to a monitor right away. They told me that it looked like a heart attack was just beginning. So we went to the hospital.
Ann was seen right away and whisked away to the Cath Lab in short order. An angioplasty was done through her wrist, the big blockage cleared, and the remaining little ones will be handled with medication. Ann is doing really well and will be moved out of ICU today.
You know how they say that heart symptoms in women present differently than in men? That they may even be a little vague? Yup, I can tell you that it’s true.
