Received this e-mail today from Attorney General Janet Mills’ (D. ME) gubernatorial campaign:
Conversion therapy is a pseudoscientific process based on the repugnant idea that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is a disease that must be “cured.” The state legislature will soon vote on a bill to finally ban conversion therapy in Maine -- but Republicans are threatening to vote against it.
We need to make sure this bill passes. Conversion therapy is an abusive practice that endangers the lives of LGBT youth and has no place in our society. We need to rally support around this bill and put the pressure on Republicans in the legislature to vote “yes”.
Will you join me in supporting the conversion therapy ban and sign my petition now?
This barbaric practice has been proven to place LGBT children and teenagers at an increased risk for depression, anxiety, drug use, homelessness, and suicide.
The LGBT community deserves our love, respect, and support -- they don't need to be 'fixed.'
That’s why I testified in favor of the ban on conversion therapy, and as Governor, I will make sure young LGBT Mainers hear from their political leaders that they are respected and valued, not broken. We need everyone to step up now and show their support for this bill.
Add your name now to end conversion therapy in Maine.
Thank you for taking action,
Janet
