What has your experience(s) been like?
Only in the past few months have I started getting involved in the local politics, aside from voting. I have gone to a few of the local Democratic Party meetings, and while I find the people there all inspiring and passionate about getting more Dems elected, I am a bit of an introvert.
The Party treasurer (who already knows my name even though we’ve only spoken a couple times) asked if I would be interested in being on the committee for my precinct. She said all it really entails is being the person who passes out the sample ballots on election days, but it does not take a lot of guessing to surmise that it requires one to be out and actively talking to the people in the neighborhood, socializing and getting to know them.
Needless to say, I find this all terrifying. Most of my socializing, past high school, has been internet-based. Would someone like me have what it takes to connect with people out in “meat space?” But after finally settling down out here just outside West Philadelphia, I do want to get more involved, albeit gradually.
So, I was wondering if anyone out there would give their experiences on being a local party committee person, or something analogous. Good experience, bad experience, how much commitment does something like this take? Etc...
