Received this e-mail today from Rep. Jared Polis’ (D. CO) gubernatorial campaign:
A few hours ago, news broke that Cambridge Analytica — a company that is under investigation for grotesque data practices — helped Republicans in Colorado win key political races by abusing their access to Americans’ personal information. We cannot do nothing and simply accept this kind of manipulation of our democracy. This is not about political parties, it’s about the integrity of our system of government.
I’ll always fight for your privacy and the integrity of our election system as governor. Will you join me?
As a former internet entrepreneur who started a company that oversaw millions of financial transactions, I know firsthand the immense responsibility of safeguarding other people’s data, and I know that we can do better job securing personal information and voting in Colorado. For instance, we can explore blockchain technology and implement a distributed ledger framework to make our elections systems less vulnerable to attacks.
As a representative in Congress, I’ve always fought to protect your personal information from misuse — whether by the Trump administration, the NSA, or shady corporations like Cambridge Analytica. And I’m ready to use my experience here to make sure that these abuses never happen again.
And I’ll work to improve our campaign finance laws to get rid of dark money — so that we always know who is trying to influence our elections here in Colorado.
Not only am I the only candidate running for Governor with strong experience in data security, but I’m also the only one not taking any PAC, special interest money, or donations over $100 dollars — so you won’t ever have to worry that I’ll put the interests of shady corporations over the needs of Colorado families.
Cambridge Analytica’s despicable misuse of your private information should be a wake-up call. Let’s send a message that here in Colorado, we won’t allow companies to abuse your privacy or manipulate our election system.
Jared
