an explanation
I have just returned from a fundraiser for Barbara Kanninen to be reelected to Arlington County VIrginia school board. it had a special focus on educators, current and former, because the guest speaker was Anne Holton, wife of Tim Kaine, and in her own a former Juvenile Court Judge (until Tim got elected Governor, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia (appointed by Terry McAuliffe), and current member of the State Board of Education (appointed by Ralph Northam). Note the names of those three men. Anne is also now an adjunct professor Education Policy at George Mason University.
About those three men.
They have several things in common, besides being Democrats.
They are three most recent DEMOCRACTIC (corrected) Governors of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
And all three had “F” ratings from the National Rifle Association (whose national headquarters are in Virginia).
When Anne noted that, my mind flashed back to the Democratic wave election of 2006, where the Dems did not lose a single House, Senate, or Governor’s position that they held going into that election. As I recall, either all or almost all of the NRA backed candidates in competitive elections also lost.
Is Virginia telling us something? Can it be in a state with a strong gun culture one can be for reasonable gun control and not have it cost you in a statewide election, if you are absolutely forthright on where you stand?
