Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s (D. MT) re-election campaign:
Today the Federal Communications Commission’s decision to repeal net neutrality rules that keep the internet free and open officially takes effect. This could soon change the way the internet operates as we know it.
Without net neutrality, internet service providers have the power to charge you more to view certain content, block your favorite websites, or slow down your internet connection altogether.
Without these protections, rural businesses and entrepreneurs could be forced to pay substantial corporate rates or be cut off from their customers.
I believe that no matter who you are or how you connect, you should have equal and fair access to the internet. That’s why I am working with my colleagues to defend internet freedom across America -- all we need is one more Senator to join with us to reverse the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality.
Sign my petition calling on all of my colleagues in the U.S. Senate to support a resolution restoring net neutrality rules that guarantee everyone has equal access to the internet.
Without net neutrality, we are at the whim of large corporations who can favor websites that make them a profit while blocking or slowing down any site that can’t pay their fees.
Ending net neutrality ends the internet as we know it and we have to do everything in our power to bring it back. I hope I can count on you to add your name to my petition today.
Thanks,
—Jon
