Most Americans have this in common, somewhere in their Family Tree:
Most Americans have ancestors, who originated from somewhere else … somewhere foreign … somewhere bleak … with very sparse opportunities. And fearful leaders or desperate circumstances, that made them pull up stakes, and make the perilous journey … to the “Promise that is was America” ...
Grandparents
Frederick Trump
In 1885, Donald Trump's grandfather, Friedrich Trump, emigrated from Kallstadt, Palatinate (then part of the Kingdom of Bavaria), to the United States at age 16. He anglicized his name to Frederick in 1892 when he became a U.S. citizen.[37] During the Klondike Gold Rush, he amassed a fortune by opening a restaurant and hotel in Bennett and later Whitehorse, serving gold seekers on their way to the region; one biographer wrote that the business included a brothel, a portrayal Donald Trump has said was "totally false".[42] After his death, his fortune was passed on to his wife and son. Frederick Trump was a second cousin of Henry J. Heinz, founder of H. J. Heinz Company, whose father also came from Kallstadt.
Elizabeth Christ Trump
Donald Trump's grandmother, Elizabeth Christ Trump, née Christ, was born in 1880 and died on June 6, 1966. Born Elisabeth Christ, she married Frederick Trump in 1902 and moved to the United States with him. Like her husband, she was a native of Kallstadt, born as the daughter of Philipp and Marie Christ. Philipp Christ was descended from Johannes Christ (1626–1688/9) of Flörsheim, Hesse.[43] Elizabeth Christ Trump was a descendant of organ builder Johann Michael Hartung (1708–1763) through her paternal grandmother Sabina Christ.[43]
Funny, how a child of an immigrant, and immigrants once removed, can grow up to become president. Only in America, are such aspirational dreams possible.
Only in America can such dreams be so easily dashed … by an immigrant’s child.
Parents
Fred Trump
Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump (1905–1999), born in New York, was one of the biggest real estate developers in New York City.[37][38] Using his inheritance, Fred Trump and his mother Elizabeth founded Elizabeth Trump & Son. Donald Trump later renamed it The Trump Organization and served as its chairman and president until assuming the office of U.S. President.[39]
Mary Anne MacLeod Trump
Born as Mary Anne MacLeod (1912–2000) in Tong, a small village near Stornoway, in the Western Isles of Scotland, she was the daughter of fisherman Malcolm MacLeod and Mary MacLeod (née Smith).[40] At age 17, she immigrated to the United States and started working as a maid in New York.[40] Mary and Donald Trump's father Fred Trump met in New York and married in 1936, settling together in Queens. Mary became a U.S. citizen in 1942.[40][41] Donald Trump has said that he "feels Scottish".[35][36]
Funny, most likely Trump would feel “even more Scottish” if someone like himself, had been president back in 1929 — and that someone like him had forced his own Mother to go back to her own county — as Trump is now doing as a matter of policy, as a matter of callous course.
If only the Donald had been forced to stay in the country of his origins — how much better off we all would be now. Americans, and those who aspire to become Americans — as Donald Trump’s own ancestors once did also, in the not so distant past.
Those who value the American opportunities, much more that Life itself, sometime …
Of course, those born into the American Elite, who have met with luck and good fortune most of their lives — those who were “born on third base” — have long since forgotten, that the Idea of America, that once was the “common dream” of us all … all real freedom-loving Americans (including those known as Asylum Seekers).
"Nunquam Concedere" loosely translated from Latin: “Never give up!”
