Sen. Bernie Sanders will lend a hand to his colleague in Wisconsin, campaigning in Eau Claire with Sen. Tammy Baldwin on July 14.
Baldwin faces a challenge on Nov. 6 from the winner of a hotly contested Aug. 14 primary contest between state Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, and Delafield businessman Kevin Nicholson.
Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont who ran as a Democrat in the 2016 presidential election, will hold a rally with Baldwin at the Lismore Hotel in downtown Eau Claire. The pair will "address the importance of putting working families first and fighting for affordable health care for all," according to a statement from Baldwin's campaign.
The event will be held at 9:30 AM on July 14th at the Lismore Hotel. Click here to contact the Baldwin campaign for more details.
Sanders and Baldwin are great colleagues and his appearance in Wisconsin is sure to rile up the base. By the way, this is Baldwin’s likely opponent, in case you didn’t know:
Leah Vukmir Recreates and Dramatizes Death Threat Experience
The ad "Threatened" begins with a shot of a phone surrounded by Vukmir's family photos. The phone's answering machine light blinks red, as a threatening message is heard: "I know where you live and I'm going to come for you. You're going to die, and I'm going to be the one who does it."
The camera slowly moves away from the phone toward Vukmir, who is seated at a dimly lit dining room table with a gun laying on it. Vukmir doesn't pick up or mention the gun as she speaks resolutely to the camera.
"Ever have someone threaten your life for what you believe in? I have. When [Governor] Scott Walker and I beat the union bosses, cut billions in taxes and defunded Planned Parenthood, the left couldn't take it. With President Trump, we can do the same in Washington. Standing on principle takes guts. I know what it takes." As she wraps up her message, the phone ominously rings again.
The dramatic scene is a recreation. The threat she is referring to happened in 2011 via a post on the website craigslist.org, not a phone message. Also, the content of that threat was never publicly specified.
Unless this clown somehow pulls off an upset victory:
Not everyone is happy ahead of Wisconsin Republicans’ Friday attempt at a “unity rally,” during which Speaker Paul Ryan and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner will stump for Republican Party of Wisconsin-endorsed candidate Leah Vukmir.
At a campaign event last week, Vukmir’s primary opponent Kevin Nicholson suggested that U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson‘s record and past votes have earned him the scorn of Wisconsin Republicans: “[P]lenty of people in our own state in the political class…are not happy with things Ron Johnson does all the time.”Johnson and others have urged “the weaker” candidate to drop out, but Kevin Nicholson’s out-of-state mega-donor Dick Uihlein has continued to spend big to buy Nicholson the election. And Nicholson has continued to attack Vukmir at campaign events across the state, including by slamming Vukmir as an “insider’s insider.”
The primary is August 18th. Until Bernie arrives, let’s help Baldwin get ready. Click here to donate and get involved with Baldwin’s re-election campaign.
