More fallout from the Michael Cohen plea via the Wall Street Journal:
*WSJ: Federal prosecutors granted immunity to David Pecker, CEO of company that publishes National Enquirer, in Cohen investigation
*WSJ: Pecker met with prosecutors to describe involvement of Cohen, Trump in hush-money deals to women ahead of 2016 election
Specifically, Pecker heads American Media Inc., suspected for quite some time now of coordinating with Cohen to purchase the stories of women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump only to kill the stories entirely so they wouldn't see the light of day. And that's exactly the "catch-and-kill" scheme laid out in Cohen's charging documents Tuesday.
Rick Hasen at Election Law Blog explains how Pecker could face legal jeopardy due to his involvement and concludes:
Pecker is cooperating with prosecutors, likely to save his own skin. Will he be charged with an offense? Given his involvement as detailed in the Cohen documents, it seems like he could be charged. It may not come till after the election, but I expect a plea deal to come.
But here's the kicker from Vanity Fair:
“Holy shit, I thought Pecker would be the last one to turn,” a Trump friend told me when I brought up the news.
Yeah, Trump's world is imploding around him.
