Ron DeSantis, like many a Republican before him, is spending his run for Florida governor ducking the press. DeSantis isn’t even willing to put much distance between himself and Donald Trump’s “the press is the enemy of the people” shtick. "When you're doing things that are deliberately misleading, when you're using hit pieces that are totally unfounded, I mean that's a problem," DeSantis said. That’s a man who’s been on Fox News five times since the August 28 primary, decrying “deliberately misleading” news.
DeSantis carved out a bit of an exception for local media, but he still canceled an interview with the Tampa Bay Times (despite having made time for Fox News repeatedly):
His campaign confirmed several days ago would sit down with the Tampa Bay Times to discuss his position on issues facing Florida between campaign stops in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties Tuesday. The campaign cancelled Tuesday morning, saying they wanted to give him time to flesh out his platform before taking questions.
Shouldn’t a candidate for governor have his platform fleshed out within two weeks of having won his primary? Shouldn’t a candidate have his positions nailed down within two months of the general election? Apparently not if you’re a Trumpist Republican.
Let's help Andrew Gillum beat Ron DeSantis like a drum. Can you chip in $5 to make that happen?
