The Civiqs daily tracking survey now reveals that support for impeaching Donald Trump abruptly jumped to 49-46% in favor after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the U.S. House would be launching a formal impeachment inquiry. With results in all 50 states, new Civiqs polling also shows that impeaching Trump receives net support from Americans in 20 states—including Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, Minnesota, and Maine.
Prior to Pelosi’s announcement, Americans were opposed to impeachment, 48-45%. The announcement coincided with a one-day increase in support for impeachment of four percentage points among Democrats, five percentage points among Independents, and two percentage points among Republicans.
The updated daily tracking of Americans’ opinions on impeachment, which has been ongoing since May 2017 and is based on 149,162 responses through Oct. 1, 2019, is viewable via an interactive online dashboard as a continuous trendline and as a 50-state map. Results can be filtered by age, race, gender, education, and party identification, both nationally and within states, to provide a picture of public opinion on impeachment that exists nowhere else in public polling.
