Netflix tried to squash their beef with Canadian citizens who were upset to see real footage from a deadly train wreck in Quebec appear in some of the streaming service's original content. The streaming service apologized to the Mayor of Lac-Mégantic, a city still reeling after 47 people died and much of its downtown was destroyed in 2013 when a train carrying crude oil derailed and exploded. While Peacock Alley Entertainment, the production company behind Travelers, agreed to replace the disaster footage in the series, Netflix is keeping it in Bird Box.
• Rep. Deb Haaland of New Mexico has been chosen as vice chair of the House Committee on Natural Resources: That makes her the first American Indian to hold such an importnat leadership role. Haaland, who represents the state’s 1st Congressional District, is a long-time Democratic activist and an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo.
• Oil giant BP will tie bonuses for 36,000 workers to climate targets in Paris Accord:
BP has pledged to align its business more closely with global climate goals and link the bonuses of 36,000 employees to greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The company said Friday that it would support a resolution from activist investors that calls on BP to align its goals with the 2015 Paris Agreement, which aims to keep global warming "well below" 2 degrees Celsius.
The resolution is from Climate Action 100+, a group of 300 investors with $32 trillion in assets. It will be voted on at the company's annual meeting in May.
• The Economic Policy Institute concludes that the economic costs Airbnb imposes likely outweigh its benefits.
