I wrote this back in April of 2018, when the first wave of Russian bot/troll accusations was sweeping the site. Since it seems that it’s almost as bad this round, I figured it was time to post it again. I note that it’s the same offense as accusing someone of being a shill, and it can certainly get you a TimeOut, and possibly get you banned if you’re a repeat offender. That said, onward to the past:
— in fact, it pretty much demonstrates that you do not have any reply of substance to make.
And it demonstrates no thought (and no knowledge of the
Rules of the Road) to recommend a comment that accuses (or implies, or infers, or suggests) another user of falling into that category.
In fact, it’s been pretty near Trumpian in its usage here lately. Sad.
Substantive: having a firm basis in reality and so important, meaningful, or considerable.
Near Antonyms of substantive: measly, minute, paltry, petty, picayunish, piddling, puny, trifling, trivial, unimportant
I expect to be pasting that image in a lot of replies in the next few days. I invite anyone who’s tired of this particular type of pie to join me in doing so, and either flagging the comments containing the reference, and/or reporting them and their upraters to the Help Desk (Community & Moderation section).
Addendum: Among other things, that means that unless the user being replied to is named Vladimir, Sergei, Ivan, or x_____ (the list is long), that name should not appear in a comment unless it refers to a person in the diary.
A link to the original, in case the one above wasn’t obvious … Some of the comments were pretty good.
