Received this e-mail from U.S. Senator Dick Durbin’s (D. IL) re-election campaign:
For too long, quality, affordable health care could only be accessed by the healthiest and wealthiest Americans. The Affordable Care Act helped level the playing field, but our work isn’t done until health care is seen as a human right and afforded to every man, woman, and child.
It’s time for us to build on the progress we’ve made toward universal coverage and guarantee even more Americans can access the care they need. That’s why I’m proudly co-sponsoring the Medicare at 50 Act, which would give every American between the ages of 50 and 64 the option to buy into Medicare while continuing to protect and preserve the program for our seniors.
Sign on now to support Medicare at 50 -- a critical next step toward health care for all.
Allowing Americans to buy into Medicare as they approach retirement age just makes sense. It will expand access and lower costs, and it’s a goal that we can accomplish while at the same time safeguarding the program that millions of our seniors rely on for their health care needs.
Not only is Medicare at 50 good policy, it has overwhelming public support. A recent poll showed 77 percent of Americans believe we should offer a Medicare option to Americans 50 and older.
Millions of Americans are counting on us to get this done, but we need you standing with us in this fight. Add your name now to call on Congress to pass the Medicare at 50 Act.
My best,
Dick Durbin
