Sen. Susan Collins is still operating at her severe threat level, sending a SECOND sternly worded letter to Attorney General William Barr. That makes TWO letters. No, not because she's bothered by the fact that he lied to Congress and has been busily covering up for his boss Trump. No, it’s because he did the thing she warned him not to do in her first sternly worded letter: tell the courts to throw out the Affordable Care Act.
Just one month ago, Collins wrote to Barr saying that she was in "profound disagreement" with the Justice Department's announced decision to intervene again in a federal court about the ACA. She was very scoldy in that letter. "This surprising decision goes well beyond the position taken by the Department last June," she wrote, lecturing that "critical consumer provisions" of the law were in jeopardy. "The Administration should not attempt to use the courts to bypass Congress," she told Barr, very sternly.
"The Administration," she wrote last month, "should reconsider its decision and defend the remainder of the ACA." Yeah, well, we just saw how much clout she has with the administration, with the ridiculous brief now filed with the court.
That's not stopping her from firing up her angry pen and writing another letter. This time Sen. Joe Manchin is helping, so, boy, Barr better just look out. He has two senators in severe fret mode, and another very serious letter is on its way.
