I believe in the power of words and the focused thought of people. And when those words are gathered together in a quilt, it makes for something very cool to look at and to read. It is a colorful reflection of the power of community! So I made something to hold a lot of words (and thoughts) focused on replacing Maine’s Senator Susan Collins with a Democrat in 2020. Lots of people signed patches for the above pictured quilt at Netroots Nation. But it’s a a big quilt and there a lot more patches to fill. We need 99 messages (I will keep this number updated).
You are warmly invited to be a part of this quilt! Make a comment below and I will write it in archival ink on one of the patches.
When the quilt is done, I will create an Act Blue page for the Democratic campaign (whoever the candidate turns out to be) to replace Susan Collins on the U.S. Senate. First, there will be diaries about the race and fundraising for the democratic candidate. Then there will be a drawing for the quilt. Over the period of a month, each day you may enter for a chance one of two ways — either donate $10 (or more) to the Act Blue page or write a haiku about the beautiful State of Maine and email it to an address I will give at the time. That’s one chance available per day per individual for a month. I hope this will raise significant funds and energy for a very, very important campaign. At the end of the month, we will have the drawing and some lucky person will get this quilt for their wall.
Many thanks to Loggersbrat for shepherding this quilt (and its companion quilt we are making for the Kentucky Senate race — more to follow on that) at Netroots Nation. You are awesome!
For inspiration, here are some of the patches signed at Netroots Nation:
It is not necessary to contribute toward the making of this quilt to be a part of it — this is something my sister and I feel strongly about and are just doing our small bit for our country’s future. But if you would like to provide general support for the work we do making quilts for community members suffering illness or hardship, we would be most grateful.
