Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Richard Neal is considering releasing a whistleblower complaint that targets possible misconduct in the auditing of Donald Trump’s federal tax returns.
The complaint raises allegations about “inappropriate efforts to influence” the audit process, House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal said in a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in August. Neal told reporters on Friday that a decision on releasing the complaint depends on advice he receives from lawyers for the House of Representatives.
Neal may also update the lawsuit seeking the release of Trump’s federal tax returns to the committee. The chairman has been seeking six years of Trump’s taxes since April but may now want to emphasize that the US House is formally beginning the impeachment process.
