With all the political news coming to a boil lately, it’s easy to get distracted from local weather reports. But, yeah, there is another hurricane on its way to the gulf coast.
From CBS News:
Hurricane Zeta, a Category 2 storm, is expected to slam New Orleans with a direct hit on Wednesday afternoon. Forecasters said the hurricane will likely bring life-threatening storm surge and strong winds along the Gulf Coast.
Zeta, the 27th named storm this year, was located about 155 miles south-southwest of New Orleans, with maximum winds of 100 mph, National Hurricane Center said in its afternoon advisory. President Trump on Wednesday approved emergency aid for Louisiana, authorizing federal officials to coordinate disaster relief efforts.
Today, we closed the office before noon (I’m a construction worker slightly south and west of New Orleans) and most of us are preparing for the wind and rain. As it happens, my older sister is in Houston visiting her grandchildren; so, I’m taking care of my place and her’s (which includes two annoying—but lovable—dogs). The projected path will have the eye moving through my hometown sometimes later tonight with high winds and plenty of rain.
All in all, I think we will be fine. But I wanted to give space to those in the storm’s path to check-in and let everyone know you’re well and safe.
Here’s a bit of music that covers both the real storms some of us are facing and those more ephemeral storms our entire nation faces for another week.
Cheers all.
