I understand and appreciate why others might not agree. It is reasonable to disagree. Still, if somebody who tends to be on the opposite side in the Bernie / non Bernie conflicts here, can see why this move by Bernie makes sense, then I would think that there would be the possibility of consensus here about this.
I understand the drawback which is that we are seen as opposing paying the military their pay. However, the benefits are much, much greater. If there is a hit, Bernie will take it. And it is simply denying unanimous consent, not voting against the bill which he already voted for and will vote for again. Democrats already voted for the bill. And with any attack, that fact answers it.
So much for the drawbacks. What are the benefits?
If there is no vote:
If Moscow won’t put it up for a vote, then this shines a light on the republican opposition to direct payments. Trump has already called the puny amount “a disgrace”. The stand alone bill with the $2000 direct payments has already passed the Democratic controlled House. This contrast with the reluctance of republicans and Mitch McConnell to pass or even vote on direct payments for $2000 demonstrates why the voters of Georgia need to get rid of Moscow Mitch as majority leader and that can only happen if Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock replace the current republicans running in the special election.
If there is a vote, then it either passes:
And Americans in need get a direct payment of $2000
Or it fails to pass:
If Perdue and Loeffler had voted for it, then it would have passed (50-50 Pence supporting Trump’s position) or with Hawley it would have passed 51-49. So that means that the only way it doesn’t pass is if Perdue and Loeffler vote against it. That’s this case. So, now Perdue and Loeffler in this case, must have voted against it (otherwise it would have passed as I noted above) and that shows all Georgia voters who want and need a rational, reasonable direct payment (and $600 is too puny to be rational or reasonable as even Trump pointed out) that Perdue and Loeffler are voting against what they need. That could be enough to get Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock who would both support the direct payment of $2000 across the finish line.
.
.
******************************************************************************
.
.
Bottom line: Loeffler and Perdue are why Mitch is majority leader and that support for Mitch is why Georgia voters in need won’t even get a vote on this reasonable direct payment or there is a vote for it and it fails because Loeffler and Perdue vote against it which may give Ossoff and Warnock a win or to save their seats they vote for it and direct payments of $2000 go out.
.
.
.
And their vote against it is a vote against what Trump has said he supports and what already passed Trump has already called a “disgrace”.
It is not merely Bernie supporters who think this was actually smart. It puts Loeffler and Perdue and Mitch in a conundrum .
All Georgians in need will have it made as clear as it possibly can be made to them that if they want direct payments and rational representation which thinks about their needs and not their own stocks, then they need to vote for Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock.
Thank you Senator Bernie Sanders for standing up for the millions of us who are in need !

I want to quickly address the sixty votes : if it doesn’t get a vote, then that’s because Mitch McConnell doesn’t want it to get a vote. That’s the truth and it’s the message that Georgia voters in need will hear from Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. That’s true whether it is sixty votes or fifty votes.
