I am disgusted by my “blue” mayor. In case you missed it:
Y’know, in general, political leaders should lead by example; during this pandemic, when misinformation is raging alongside the virus itself, it’s all the more critical. So when a Democratic mayor releases a video urging his city’s residents to stay home, and it turns out the video itself was shot while the mayor was vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, it’s not just garden variety hypocrisy; it materially contributes to the dialogue claiming that Covid compliance is unnecessary. And if we say that Republicans like GSA Chief Emily Murphy are causing unnecessary deaths (in her case for delaying transition funding), we should say the same about said Mayor.
I mean, the sheer, tone-deaf, political malpractice is bad enough. But we fight an uphill battle every day here in the GSOT just to get people to believe that COVID exists, or to value our hospital workers’ enough not inundate them with an endless stream of gruesome death. The replies to the above tweet are filled with how it “proves” that the disease is not as much of a threat as our leaders say it is; how Democratic officials promote “one rule for me, one rule for thee.” What I believe to be a very representative example of literally hundreds of replies:
If a Republican mayor had done the same thing, I’m pretty sure we would be all over it. But death don’t have no mercy, regardless of party.
