I commented in Ben’s diary last night that K2 was having minor surgery today. So I’m going to start right off by saying “please excuse any typoes. I’ve been awake since before 5am.” K2 had a scar on his face from an injury when he was a toddler, and in February right before COVID shut everything down we’d had a consult to see what could be done about reducing the size of said scar. We’d been happy to learn it would be possible to dramatically (and relatively easily) change the appearance, but had to wait until elective surgeries were a thing again. We got the call last week that a date had been scheduled (yay to being local and thus easily scheduled!). It went extremely well, and everyone — patient, surgeon, parents and sibling, are thrilled at the outcome.

Living in the greater Boston area gave us a multitude of options for handling this procedure; we ended up at Shriner’s Hospital For Children, which is where Mass General sends all of its pediatric scar surgery patients. I really didn’t know a lot about Shriner’s other than seeing their clowns in local parades but I will always donate whenever possible after today. I was truly impressed by everything about the facility, from layout to staff to COVID protocols.
This is by necessity a brief diary, mostly because you do NOT want me waffle-facing on my keyboard! I do want to leave you with a piece I heard on NPR last week, and which is still relevant because it’s only 3 days after July 4th :). Every July 4th I inflict a reading of the Declaration of Independence on whoever is eating breakfast with me, and this is the annual one done by NPR staff. Enjoy!
NPR Reads The Declaration Of Independence
Thank you to BeninSC for bringing the Tops to us tonight! I shudder to think what I might have done to the formatting had I attempted it!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers, Barack Obama or DailyKos. Eyesbright's diary about the ill-fated Trump sponsored NASCAR race car in Sunday's race at Indianapolis had a number of clever bon mots in the comments, but this one by ruscle made me grin.

In a diary today about the no good horrible changes to the Daily Kos format, in
this comment,
elfling gives us a way to stay with a better way, the old way. I thought that deserved Top Comment status.

The thread that begins here (with comments by Chachy, RobNH and MetroGnome) ticked the 1,000 Alaskans box for me!
