A Point of Choosing
At this time, in this moment,
when plague and protest intersect,
when the Arctic is on fire
and inland rivers drown their cities,
when lightning flashes across continents,
polluted oceans rise up in hurricanes,
typhoons, and cyclones,
when politics dictates every act,
when poverty is a death sentence
and homelessness accepted,
when violence erupts in the name of order,
and mass murder is a norm,
when disease runs unchecked through
the halls of cities and the homes of farmers,
afflicting the vulnerable essential ones,
when righteousness and justice
rise up against the false gods of greed and power,
we must choose.
We stand in an intersection full of fear and anger,
noisy with conflict and confusion.
To stand still is to ride the tornado of chaos.
To retreat is to court the lightning.
We can choose greed and power,
setting our fears loose in a frantic world,
or we can choose justice and love,
working together to heal the wounded world
and build a future.
The choice is ours.
The choice is now.
