A task force led by presidential historian Stephen Miller has been preparing what is described as a more realistic assessment of United States combat deaths during World War II, according to White House internal documents. As the summary of the draft document says, “There is ample evidence that the death toll of the war was inflated through a combination of simplistic reporting and politically motivated inflation of the numbers.”
One important topic of the report is about unproven causality. “Pretty much every soldier who died anywhere near enemy fire is listed as a combat death,” according to the report. “A more measured analysis would conclude that a given soldier may not have died of machine gun fire, but rather died with machine gun fire, which is a completely different thing. For every combat death recorded, no evidence is presented that the person in question would not otherwise have died at that moment or some time soon thereafter.”
The report lays out an important sense of proportion. “As a percentage of all deaths, alleged US combat deaths during that four year period is very small, not more than a few percent.” For a longer perspective, the report notes that of the people said to have been killed in Word War II, almost all of them would have died by now anyway, making the whole matter moot on a going-forward basis.
There were strong forces at work pushing the official death count higher. Per the report, “A high death toll was instrumental of whipping up a frenzy against the very fine people on the other side of the war, callously defined as the “enemy” but who were simply expressing pride in their heritage.” Not surprisingly, this campaign urged the population to turn in money and resources to the central government.
The alleged death toll completely neglects the powerfully positive health effects of mobilizing the youth of America, often to desirable seaside destinations. A cohort of young Americans had an unprecedented opportunity to engage in healthy outdoor activities including hiking, target shooting, and for some lucky few, swimming.
Contrast that opportunity with the the human consequences of being forced to stay at home, with the liberties closed off by the overzealous hand of an oppressive government infringing on their rights to light up the seashore at night. Uncounted numbers of domestic abuse cases were averted by providing a healthy outlet for all of those young people.
The task force has maintained a laser focus on its critically important report, even as the newly revealed facts show other disturbing patterns. For instance, there is the matter of the victors requiring the vanquished to erase important years of their history by forbidding statues of their gallant war heroes.
During internal deliberations, one aide pressed Miller on the optics of releasing this report at a time when the administration has highlighted the extreme hazard from undocumented people in the US. Miller replied that the demographics of the situation were entirely different. “Those guys were illegal, so they’re definitely killers,” he reportedly said.
The work was inspired by White House observations of how a recent occurrence of the sniffles in some parts of the US has been completely blown out of proportion for political purposes, primarily to harm the President’s support.
“Far left extremists always make up these absurd numbers of deaths to serve their agenda,” Miller reportedly said in a task force meeting. “Air pollution, war, the flu, you name it. Then they use their numbers to shut down American freedoms.”
This report is just the first step in rolling back the far-left incursion on personal liberties. “Alan Dershowitz has some important ideas about freedom of association between consenting, um, people. Okay, between people,” Miller reportedly said. “We look forward to working with him on these important constitutional questions. We wish him well.”
