Dear Gen Z,
You turned out to vote in 2020 and helped kick trump out of the White House. The 2020 election numbers say it all:
Generation Z, who are currently between the ages of 8 and 23, played a significant role in both of these records. NBC exit polls suggest that 65% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 voted for Biden — 11% more than any other age group.
And in states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, young voters proved to be key to Biden’s success.
“I’ve been doing demographic analysis about the changing American electorate for two decades,” says Simon Rosenberg, president of NDN (previously known as the New Democrat Network) and the New Policy Institute. “53% to 55% of registered 18 to 29-year-olds appear to have voted. That may be the highest ever recorded in the modern era of politics.” www.cnbc.com/...
The future is yours, Gen Z.
A massive Gen Z turnout in the 2022 Midterm Election can put a stop to the Republican party insanity that’s inching us closer to the Hunger Games.
Let’s cut through the fog of political talking heads yabbering about this-or-that policy.
Let’s look at what’s at the root of the republican game plan: pure greed.
Why do Republicans claim the Climate Crisis is a hoax?
Because they want to continue making gobs of money in the stock market trading on fossil fuels. It’s that simple.
One would think they have kids and grandkids and, down the road, great grandkids who will be dealing with the devastation of fires and floods and mega-storms.
Thing is — people who check their stock portfolio’s performance every day only think in terms of the next financial quarter: three months at a time.
Again: pure greed.
Why are Republicans against Free Tuition?
Because they want to keep non-rich young people in debt.
When you enter the workforce with a load of student debt on your back, you’ll be forced to take low-paying jobs at one of the companies and corporations in which they own shares.
The way they see it, keeping pay as low as possible means these companies and corporations make more profit that fattens up their stock portfolio, even more.
And there’s another reason they’re against Free Tuition: Mother Nature sprinkles talent and intelligence across the population quite evenly.
Talent and intelligence is not limited to the wealthiest zip codes. We’ve all met people from wealthy families who are as dumb as rocks, right?
All they have over non-rich kids is a grandfather or great-grandfather who started their family’s fortune.
The best example: Donald Trump and his kids. If Fred Trump wasn’t able to hand his son, Donald, several million dollars to start a company over 40 years ago, where would Donald and his kids be today?
Free Tuition means more non-rich young people will be graduating college and competing with their rich kids for careers.
Republicans know that the only way to keep their kids at the front of the line in life is to make sure they make it as hard as possible for non-rich kids to get a college education.
Why are Republicans against Universal Healthcare?
It’s that G-word again: Greed. They own stock in those health insurance companies. If Universal Healthcare puts health insurance companies out of business, they lose profits and dividends. It’s that simple.
When only private corporations can sell health insurance (jacking up the cost whenever they want) rich people who own shares in those private companies make more profit.
Meanwhile, non-rich people must keep working low-paying jobs to get employer healthcare insurance through those same health insurance companies.
Question: How many of your non-rich parents stay at jobs they don’t particularly like because they are afraid of losing healthcare insurance through their employer? Go on. Ask them.
Why are Republicans against higher taxes on the wealthy to pay for things we all really need?
All together now: greed. If they pay higher taxes to cover Free Tuition and Universal Healthcare, it cuts into their profits while making life a little easier for non-rich people who struggle to pay for these things out of pocket.
And when you make life easier for non-rich people, they may be less willing to work for the low wages paid by the companies and corporation in which they own shares. It’s a vicious cycle of greed.
By now you’re probably wondering, “Why do non-rich, working class white people keep voting for republicans?”
Because republicans play on their prejudices, bigotry and fears generating racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia and misogyny.
Hold on. There’s more.
The vast majority of white non-college educated men and women vote for republicans. In fact, a huge number of the “no college” white voters voted for Trump, twice.
And that’s another reason why republicans are against free tuition: people with a college education are more likely to vote against republicans.
And the circle completes: greed. However...
The 67-million strong Generation Z poses a threat to Republicans.
Gen Z is the most diverse and pro-diversity generation, ever. In 2020, you kicked trump out of office. As more of you turn 18 and become eligible to vote against republicans, they’re in trouble. And they know it.
For the 2022 Mid-Term Elections, they’re hoping Gen Z stays home.
Studies show, in previous generations, that’s been the trend with young people age 18 and 24. They tend to get fired-up and vote in Presidential elections but their numbers fall off in the Mid-Term elections.
The thing is — Gen Z already turned out to vote in greater numbers than any other generation when the same age.
If Gen Z turns out to vote in the Mid-Term Election in even greater numbers, by adding those who turned 18 after 2020, the republicans are screwed.
Here’s why voting in the 2022 Mid-Terms is so important.
The Senate and The House of Representatives run the country. They decide to pass or reject legislation that becomes the law of the land. They decide what new legislation lands on the desk of the President for his signature and what gets killed.
Right now, the Senate is split 50-50 between parties. We need to gain more blue seats in the Senate to break that 50-50 stalemate.
Example: with the current 50-50 stalemate in the Senate, republicans were able to kill the Voting Rights Bill, this year.
That’s right — they’re against helping more people exercise their Constitutional right to vote. Because studies show, when more people vote, republicans lose elections.
The Democratic Party holds only a slim majority in the House of Representatives. We need to gain more seats in the House, too.
If republicans manage to win more seats in the 2022 Mid-Term Elections, that’s it. They run the country.
And the way things are going, it’s looking more and more like the Republican Party wants a future that turns your country into Panem: a Totalitarian, Fascist state.
The future is yours, Gen Z. Not theirs. Please unite to vote out the Republicans in the Mid-Term Election: Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
If you’re already registered to vote, don’t forget to vote in the mid-terms. If you’re turning 18, register to vote and get to the polls on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Urge your friends to do the same.
Don’t let republicans turn your future into The Hunger Games.
