Jason Whitlock is a sports commentator notable for his strong opinions. And he has an opinion on why Carl Nassib became the first active NFL player to come out. He writes in a piece for Blaze media (with whom he has a deep and substantial relationship)
By announcing on Instagram that he prefers to have sex with men, Nassib — listed as third string on the Raiders' depth chart — increased his likelihood of making the team's roster tenfold. He increased his chances of moving up the depth chart twentyfold. He increased his attractiveness to corporate advertisers a hundredfold.
To Whitlock, Nassib’s affirmation of his sexuality was nothing more than a career boost for a marginal player. In Jason’s calculation Carl, with his playing time curtailed and facing fresh competition from free agents and draft choices, gambled that declaring his sexuality would boost his earning potential.
It makes you wonder why in the 101 years of NFL history, it never occurred to another marginal player before. There must have been thousands on the cusp. And Michael Sam would seem to be good evidence that coming out is not an automatic career enhancer.
More than that, Whitlock’s language is graphic. While it is factual, to say that Nassib “prefers to have sex with men” is charged — deliberately so. Most everyone else, regardless of their position on the subject, reported the story as ‘Nassib admitted or declared he was gay/homosexual’.
But, just in case you missed the point, Whitlock added
“How consenting adults pleasure themselves sexually is irrelevant to me. Many of us, whether gay or straight, pleasure ourselves in sinful ways. I don't view my sexual sins as any more or less sinful than Nassib's.”
And
“Nassib is cashing in. His announcement that he prefers sex with men was greeted by thunderous applause everywhere.”
And
What excites Carl Nassib's penis has transformed an average NFL player into one of the most important people in sports.
And
“If Kim Kardashian excites you, your penis envy is justified.”
That’s a lot of penis. And someone is going to have to explain to me what the last sentence means and how it is relevant.
Whitlock is not new to the penis game (too much? Am I as big a sinner as Jason?). On February 10, 2012, after Jeremy Lin — of ‘Linsanity fame’ — scored a career-high 38 points, Whitlock tweeted "some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight." A cheap reference to cultural stereotypes of Asian manhood.
Whitlock has never married. He maintains it is because he wants to devote himself 24/7 to his career. I have no evidence that isn’t true. But full disclosure requires everything is thrown into the hopper.
Whitlock once said he was a supporter of LGTBQ+ so that’s to his credit. However he is a fundamentalist Christian and the sort of conservative who writes opinion pieces for Blaze Media, so you have to wonder if his support is more of the ‘reparative’ kind rather than ‘live and let live’. And allow me to remind the reader that he did write of sex as being ‘sinful’.
It wasn’t just Nassib, He also took the time to dismiss another athlete who took a stand — or a knee — for a cause. He reiterated his contention that athletes aren’t true to their beliefs but only hold them for money
Kaepernick was and is an opportunist, a frustrated athlete who joined the "Alphabet Mafia" (BLM) for protection.
Rather than deal with the ramifications of his NFL fall from grace, Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem and blamed white racism for the collapse of his dream.
“Alphabet Mafia” is another theme of Whitlock’s. Beyond BLM, he has a beef with the gay community (in contradiction with his earlier expressed support) because,
In modern America, joining the Alphabet Mafia (LGBTQIA+) has more privileges than American Express. The Alphabet Mafia is LifeLock, a guarantee of your good name and the security of your finances while you sleep.
Conservatives, and Whitlock is no exception, are always looking for the conspiracy, Gays are a ‘mafia’ with an ‘agenda’. BLM is also a mafia — in it for the money and the opportunity for free electronics. Feminists are ‘feminazis’. Liberals are socialist fascists with an eye to total state control. Let’s just call it what it is.
Projection.
