The House Freedom Caucus is having a hissy fit over the House Select Committee going foreword with an investigation of the 1/6 attack on the Capitol. Something the Freedom Caucus desperately wants to avoid, as it would put their more seditious members under the spotlight. And their bomb throwing members Jim Jordan and Jim Banks were kicked off of the committee because of their affinity for false narratives. They can’t tolerate such effrontery!

But the one-page letter from the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus represents a test for McCarthy, who likely will need Freedom Caucus support in his quest to secure 218 votes and become speaker if Republicans win back the House in 2022.
The group of conservative rabble-rousers, closely aligned with former President Trump, derailed McCarthy’s bid to be speaker in 2015, when Ohio Republican John Boehner abruptly resigned from the job after a Freedom Caucus leader threatened to force a similar floor vote to oust him from power.
“We, the House Freedom Caucus, respectfully request that you … bring up a privileged motion by July 31, 2021 to vacate the chair and Nancy Pelosi’s authoritarian reign as Speaker of the House,” the Freedom Caucus wrote to McCarthy.
No doubt McCarthy knuckled under to the Freedom Caucus to name Jordan and Banks for the Select Committee. The strident Freedom Caucus seems to be the tail that wags the House Republican dogs.

Meanwhile in Keven McCarthy’s home district climate change is creating major problems. Problems McCarthy hasn’t listed a finger to address.
Southern San Joaquin Valley Rivers are running at near historic lows — again.
The resolution notes the river is so low this year, the city won’t have any “excess” water to sell to local agricultural irrigation districts. This is the first time the City Water Resources Department has made such a resolution.
McCarthy’s Republican Caucus is part of the problem, NOT the solution.
