Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share a virtual kitchen table with other readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by to talk about music, your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper…. Newcomers may notice that many who post in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table and hope to make some new friends as well.
I did a little time tripping on YouTube and collected a few gleanings. I offer these as a few more mind soothers, little glimpses of places and people as they were — or might have been.
One might think of the beauty of La Belle Époque in Paris— but corsets? OMG, no…. Coco Chanel did women a favor in ending that fashion.
There are some other videos on YouTube that picture Nefertiti as very light complected. I don’t buy that. To me, this one feels closer to what the truth would have been — a beautiful African woman.
One can’t go wrong with a bit of Max Miller for some historical flavor. One might also think it could be subtitled “How to keep your knights busy and your country unravaged.” While feeding them pies.
I chose this because I’ve been watching Detective Montalbano on MhZ (at Mrcynical’s suggestion) — and so many of the old buildings in Sicily as shown on the program have a hint of something much, much more ancient. So it is interesting to see actual Roman ruins that are fairly intact.
The weekend begins now. Come in, be comfortable, and share your day, your weekend plans, your menus. This is an open thread.
