It’s going to be awhile before the water fowl can return to Dellinger’s Pond. As you can discern from the photo, the sun is to the left of the pond and low in the sky. The pond doesn’t get much direct sunlight this time of the year so once it freezes over it stays that way until the weather changes; our current forecast shows no precipitation ahead for at least a week, and it will take a couple of days of rain to open the pond again.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

So this Daily Bucket is an open thread because I didn’t get anything from going out yesterday except the title photo. I did go over to my walking path along American Valley, and that’s where the water fowl were. Canada Goose and Mallard Duck and that was it and I didn’t even feel motivated to take a photo because I’ve taken and posted dozens of them.

A friend of mine just told me yesterday that there’s a large flock of Wild Turkey out at Feather River College (the college is about a two mile bicycle ride from my apartment), with several males sporting impressive wattles so I’ll run over and check that out. I’ve never taken a photo of a male Wild Turkey so that would be a great capture.

Coming back from Reno on the 11th I spotted a Bald Eagle and what I’m pretty sure were Golden Eagle (two of them). I can’t be certain about the Goldens, but this BE sighting now makes four that I’ve seen just from casual observing over the past year. I think this indicates that maybe our local BE population is on the rise, just imagining that there must be Baldies out there that I’m missing.

Over to you. I’ll be back in about an hour.
Now It’s Your Turn.
What have you noted happening in your area or travels? As usual post your observations as well as their general location in the comments.
Thank you.
