New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who became the first woman to hold the office when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned, has won the seat outright, defeating staunch Trump ally Lee Zeldin. Hochul began her political career as Erie County Clerk and became a member of Congress representing NY-26. She served as lieutenant governor from 2015-21 before assuming the seat from Cuomo.
As a member of Congress, Zeldin has a perfect forced-birth record and a legislative score of 0 from Planned Parenthood. Zeldin insisted the last days of the campaign that he would not change the state’s abortion laws. Because of course he did.
