I’ve been everywhere...man,
OK maybe nowhere near as many places as Johnny Cash, but I have been to a lot of places in the US...especially in the areas known as the “flyover country”…..and I have made many friends in those places, good, solid, blue people.
If you had told me before I grew up and explored that I would go to Omaha, NE and like it, I would have denied it. But if you find yourself in a sea of red Omaha is a nice island of Blue to hunker down in.
My best friend and his husband are leading citizens of the city. When I go to visit (My BF is lead cellist in the Omaha Symphony) we go to concerts, fancy dinners, diver restaurants and thrift stores, you name it we have explored it.
The city is so blue even at times I a sorta redish on some issues felt my body reel back.
So….what is the point of this diary?
I get so sick of diaries that bash hold states, saying we should abandon them, etc. Look at the results of Houston and Dallas when you think we should abandon Texas. Look at the results of Omaha when you think the same about Nebraska.
Telling people they should just “move out” is not reasonable. If you have invested your life in a place, or can barely afford living day to day the whole idea of moving is not practical.
What we should do is not attack such people but work with them.
