Today I drove two hours to Tampa. It was a trip I’d had planned for a couple of months. I went to Tampa to have my traditional birthday celebration with my dear friend Jess. We both have May birthdays and we like to get together to celebrate. There were dozens of things we could have done today, but once we learned that Tampa would be joining hundreds of cities all over the country in protesting the state’s attempt to force itself into the private parts of women’s lives everywhere, there really weren’t dozens of things we could do today. There was only one. We went to the march.
Here we are and here’s what we saw, which is over 1,000 people who had dozens of other things they could have been doing, but when it came down to it, they knew what was most important. They showed up in Tampa and I bet in the rest of the country, too.

I want to thank BobbyBoomBoom for their diary. Y’all should go read it! It helped me clarify my thinking in this way that I want to say to y’all.
The thing that struck me was that that there were over 1,000 people there marching for over 1,000 different reasons, and they’re all legitimate reasons. In Philly and DC and Chicago and LA and in Brownsville, Texas and Salina, Kansas and all over the country men and women marched. Millions marched for a million reasons, but what it boils down to is that this move by the radical right to usurp the rest of our rights is a danger to EVERYONE.
