The word “unprecedented” has practically become a Trump-era punchline, but it's quite simply the perfect word to sum up the November midterms. The country is experiencing record inflation and Americans' view of the economy is abysmal—both factors that would normally doom the party that controls the White House.
At the same, whether you're talking about job approval or even personal likability, President Joe Biden's numbers are dismal.
Still, as soon as this week, a Supreme Court decision could upend 50 years of abortion rights in this country as the Jan. 6 committee continues making its blockbuster case that a former president engineered a violent coup as part of a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 elections.
The polling is on issues like abortion and Jan. 6 would be a slam dunk for Democrats in a normal environment. Support for abortion rights and upholding Roe v. Wade has hit record highs in several recent polls, and roughly 60% of the American public is ready to see Donald Trump held to account.
A new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds that 58% of Americans believe Donald Trump bears a good or great amount of responsibility for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection and support charging him with a crime. Six in 10 also say the House select committee's probe into Jan. 6 is fair and impartial.
Other issues also loom, such as gun control and immigration. We're going to hash it all out today on The Brief with my co-host Cara Zelaya, Daily Kos content strategist and social media extraordinaire, and Joe Sudbay, a frequent guest host for SiriusXM Progress and a political consultant who works with progressive groups on issues like immigration, LGBTQ rights, gun control, and more.
