In stunning testimony before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 coup, Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchison testified that Meadows and Donald Trump had both been told the crowd Trump had assembled on Jan. 6 were carrying a variety of weapons. She testified that after Trump had been told of those weapons and told that many in the crowd were resisting going through magnometers (metal detectors) because they did not want those weapons confiscated, Trump demanded the magnometers shut off so that the crowd could enter with those weapons. "They're not here to hurt me," said Trump.
Trump then not only sent the known-armed mob to the Capitol as Congress was meeting to certify the presidential election's results, asking them to "fight" for him, but got into a physical altercation with a member of his security detail after the Secret Service refused to drive him to the Capitol so that he could personally lead the crowd. At the White House, he expressed satisfaction to staff about the mob's threat to Vice President Mike Pence, telling staffers "Mike deserves it." He then sent a tweet specifically singling out Mike Pence even as violence continued to unfold.
Donald Trump orchestrated the violence at the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to nullify an American election, and he is a traitor.
