Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go, there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
The Clash, 1982
Always good for a laugh, the delusional naked Emperor may have topped our guffaws at his drink bleach suggestion to cure Covid-19 suggestion. In a recent interview with Sean Hannity he claimed he could declassify “everything” and that it was not necessary to do so via any set protocol or procedure, but that he could in fact do so just by “thinking it.” His buddy Hannity, needless to say, missed the opportunity for follow-up questions such as:
- How would others know the documents were declassified if they still said ‘Classified’ or would your thoughts rewrite the designation on every page of every document?”, and
- When did you do this? While still in the Whitehouse, on your way out as you packed the documents into boxes, or after you were at Mar-a-Lago and no longer President and thus no longer had executive privilege?
- Did he have any concerns about the dangers of highly sensitive information including, nuclear, getting out?
- Does he have concerns about loss of trust with our allies?
But Mar-a-Lago-gate is just one of the telepathic genius’s woes. His ego, his brand, and his family and his finances are under attack by the State of New York via a civil suit filed by Letitia James who has referred the case to the IRS for possible federal tax fraud crimes.
Most of us know that the original Teflon Don, mobster John Gotti, was finally brought to justice and imprisoned (where he subsequently died) for tax evasion. The New York State civil suit and its fallout reinvigorates the possibility of a similar fate for the current Don who thinks he’s invisible and above all laws.
Many of us long for the de-frocked, twice impeached loser to get his long-awaited and well deserved comeuppance proving once and for all that he is not above the law and never was even while in office. However . . . will imprisonment for the Donald create what he threatens: “problems” like “we've never seen” if he's indicted. He’s been courting his QAnon followers more and more and we know where that led us in January 2021.
Could his most radical followers – which include many with military-training -- start an all-out revolution? Are there enough of them to accomplish any real threat? Unlike on Jan 6, what would be their main physical target be? What would their goal be, other than expressing their anger at their belief of a witch hunt that is targeting their cult-leader Messiah?
Should we worry? Or, are his minions watching the Jan 6 insurgents get thrown in jail and knowing their almighty leader is powerless to pardon any of them or commute sentences?
What we know is this: Neither he nor his Brown Shirts will go quietly into the night. The destruction he has caused — the divisiveness — will take generations, if ever, to be undone whether he goes to prison or not.
