SEVEN DAYS: The stakes in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race keep rising. Dan Kelly, the MAGA extremist candidate, has taken a chilling turn to the fringe.
Read on—and then chip in to help us defeat him.
Last week, Dan Kelly spoke at an event where the preceding speaker was an ultra-extremist who had previously argued that murdering abortion providers is “justifiable homicide”—Matthew Trewhella. Trewhalla was investigated by the FBI for possible links to an actual murder of an abortion provider.
Then, a national anti-abortion group announced it would plow $2 million into supporting Dan Kelly in these final days.
Meanwhile, Dan Kelly has openly embraced the support of a January 6 insurrectionist, election denier, and conspiracy theorist—Scott Presler—who is crisscrossing the state turning out GOP voters for Kelly.
Presler has a long history of right-wing extremism, having previously worked as an “activism strategist” for a radical anti-Muslim hate group.
In recent years, Presler has regularly promoted election misinformation and organized several “stop the steal” rallies in the weeks before the January 6 attack—which Presler himself attended. Now, Presler and Kelly have recorded a video together.
Kelly told the Associated Press he was not concerned that Presler had been on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and his support had been “invaluable.”
Dan Kelly’s proximity to the dangerous far-right fringe reveals his values. He’d be a disaster for Wisconsin on the Supreme Court.
And now—there’s surely more MAGA money to come. These things happen in tandem: Kelly signals just how extreme he is; right-wing money floods in.
There are two ways to lose an election in Wisconsin: at the beginning, or at the end.
In this race, we started strong—owning the airwaves and the doors and defining this election as a referendum on the freedom to access safe and legal abortion and to live in a democracy.
The right knows they lost the momentum at the beginning. But we have to expect them to be willing to do absolutely anything—the truth be damned—in the final stretch.
Expect vicious disinformation. Their goal isn’t just to persuade—it’s to suppress the vote, divide and distract, and fire up their side.
But folks, we’ve got this—because we’re not going to take anything for granted. Because we’ve been preparing for this moment. Because we know how bad things can get if we lose—but also how much positive change is possible if we win. This race could be the hinge for the history of our state.
In these final seven days, are you signed up to knock on doors? If you’re not in a position to knock on doors, will you join a virtual phone bank? Will you recruit your friends to do the same?
Maybe we’ll win in a blowout.
But maybe it’ll be like 2019, when the margin of victory was 5,981 votes.
Or like 2011, when the margin of victory was 7,004 votes.
Or maybe it will be like the six local elections in the spring of 2022 that each came down to a game of chance—because they were tied.
If you care about the future of freedom in our state, help Judge Janet win this race. Chip in any amount and help WisDems supercharge our organizing and everywhere-all-the-time campaign push.
We’ve been preparing for these final seven days. We’ve built up our infrastructure relentlessly—the organizing muscle and communications apparatus. Your support of any amount ensures that we have enough resources to finish strong.
Let’s put it all on the line. And rest on April 5. Join us to defeat extremism in Wisconsin. We’ve got just seven short days left in this race. So let’s rack up 700 donations by the end of today. These dollars can change history. Chip in—then spread the word!
