Texas is important. It has a lot of electoral votes and Congressional districts. Texas is gradually going purple, despite the fierce fighting of MAGA’ts and other undesireables. Textbook publishing companies generally tend to follow the Texas line, whatever that is (“Evolution is a theory”)
The Texas Observer is a newspaper that is important in the fight to bring sanity and progressive thought to Texas. Recently, it looked like it was going to fold.
Started in 1954, The Observer has consistently shown light on murky Texas politics. However, recently, the publication has run into economic headwinds.

“The Texas Democracy Foundation, the nonprofit parent of the Texas Observer, told its staff Monday that it is laying off employees—including journalists and editors—and ceasing publication on Friday, March 31, 2023.
Staff leaped to save the publication. A Go Fund Me was established so that readers and supporters of the Observer could give a lifeline to staff and journalists.
By Wednesday, overwhelmed by support (the GoFundMe site raised $275,000 in two and a half days) the board rescinded its decision
However, we are not out of the woods yet. I plan to add some dollars.
