Reports indicate Israel and Iran are close to war. Both sides have incentive to wag the dog and create one. The ingredients are in place, the time is right, and war is likely on the horizon.
Yoni Netanyahu was one of Israel’s greatest heroes. Yoni wrote to his brother Benjamin during Israel’s 1973 war with Egypt and Syria. Yoni informed his younger brother never to compromise with the enemy. That letter seems to have had a lasting effect on Israel’s current Prime Minister. Benjamin Netanyahu faces heavy criticism and mass protest over his attempt curtail judicial investigations into corruption charges against him.
Israel now does not have to worry about Syria. Syria is involved in recuperating from an earthquake while still conducting a Civil War. Russia, preoccupied with Ukraine is not in a position to help Iran. And if Russia did help Iran, how would Russian citizens react to assisting a strict Muslim nation after what happened to Russia in Afghanistan, and then considering their ordeal with Chechnya. Aiding Iran could cause Russian citizens to further question Vladmir Putin.
A one-on-one war with Iran is Israel’s best chance for victory. United States influence with other Middle East Muslim nations will prevent anyone joining Iran’s call for Jihad.
Iran may also want war to unite its population and restore support for its beleaguered regime. Women in Iran are still protesting and anger at Iran’s religious leaders runs strong. Iranian schoolgirls are being poisoned. There is suspicion the government is behind these poisonings to force the closure of schools educating girls.
The increment to this war is Iran has been found to have nuclear materials within 1% of being weapon grade. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Republicans will blame Obama, and rational people will blame Trump. The question is: What will the US do?
Marjorie Taylor Greene and Boebert will no doubt back Iran. They seem to have a thing for fake men who are bullies and abuse women. They probably don’t know how many Americans have been thirsting for revenge against Iran since 1979 and this may be our moment.
Of course, the U.S. can screw it up royally. The son of the Shah of Iran is alive and well and would like to be restored to his father’s throne, or at least to be a “temporary” President. Sometimes called the “Young Prince” Reza Pahlavi, the Shah’s oldest son is neither young, nor a prince. He has been urging western countries to provide maximum pressure against Iran’s religious regime. Pahlavi is working with high-profile young activists inside and outside of Iran to forge an alliance. He proposes a charter based on a set of secular democratic principles. He would present this to a constituent assembly as the basis of a constitution, and then put it to a referendum. Paint me skeptical.
None the less, I suspect many Americans like me who remember 1979, would be overjoyed to see the Iranian Theocracy fall. Whomever fills the void will no doubt seek U.S. aid in establishing and maintaining their government. The United States made the Shah possible. Let us hope we do not repeat this mistake with his son. Those who do not know history, like Boebert and Greene, will be the voice of stupidity. They will complain about any aid we offer to establish a democracy in Iran. Our intelligent voices must drown them out.
Oh, and for who will win this war: It’s a no brainer. Those Israeli Secret Space Lasers will win the day.
