Arabian countries have the morality police to enforce religious laws. We in the U.S. also have the morality police. We just call ours the vice squad.
Here in the 21st century, it's about time we legalize, tax and regulate all vices. That includes consenting adult sex work, drugs, gambling, you name it.
It's a basic matter of civil liberties that every adult should be able to do anything they want with their own body as long as it doesn't adversely affect anyone else.
The laws are always what cause the most harm. Street drugs have no quality control, so they're often dangerous; imagine if your latest prescription were as unregulated as street drugs. Sex workers are often violently trafficked, lacking access to legal protection, STI testing, and a way out if they want one; we can disparage that lifestyle all we want, but legal regulation would make sex work much safer.
Regulation of any vice would end much of the harm we mistakenly blame on the vice itself. We've tried for millennia, and completely in vain, to legislate morality. It's futile now. It always has been.
