This will probably seem a bit early, but, the way I see it, anything that helps knock Republicans out of Congress is a good thing.
The idea for this letter came to me while I was in my car this morning. My aim should be fairly obvious from the first line; (un)fortunately for me, my Congresscritter is Nancy Johnson (R-Pharma).
What does a vote for Nancy Johnson mean?
The rest is on the flip. . . .
What does a vote for Nancy Johnson mean?
A vote for Nancy Johnson is a vote for a Republican Congress.
A Republican Congress that believes millionaires need additional tax cuts more than your children need their educations.
A Republican Congress that believes the best way to fix Social Security for future generations is to destroy it altogether.
A Republican Congress that believes tax cuts for oil companies are more important than rebuilding New Orleans.
A Republican Congress that supports the flawed policies in Iraq that have cost this country billions of dollars, ruined tens of thousands of American families--let alone the number of Iraqi families destroyed--and left this country less safe than 2001.
A Republican Congress that claims it's providing prescription drug benefits for seniors . . . but instead creates a giant giveaway to the pharmaceutical industry that confuses the people it's meant to help.
A Republican Congress full of hypocrisy, demanding up-or-down votes on judicial nominees . . . but only on nominees the Republicans deem worthy.
A Republican Congress that believes it has the right to invade your family's privacy.
A Republican Congress that is misguided in its priorities, investigating the Bowl Championship Series rather than the myriad failures of George W. Bush and his cronies.
A Republican Congress that is packed with corrupt Republicans, who care more about getting their perks than helping you and your family.
If these are things you support, than vote for Nancy Johnson. But if you believe that this country can do better, should do better, and must do better than it has since 2000, vote for (the Democrat).
This is only a first draft, but, with a few modifications, it could probably be used in almost any red district.
But this brings to mind two questions:
(1) What could be added/changed to make it stronger, while staying under the 300-word limit many "Letters to the Editor" columns have (it's currently 270 words)?
(2) When would be the best time to send something like this anyways?
Any advice you all can give would be greatly appreciated.
