So. This is what the GOP--those extremist right wing dingbats--are worried about. My sister called me laughing about this letter sent to her husband who is a registered R. Don't worry though, he's seen the light!
Dear Friend,
If Democrats are allowed to take control of Congress, they will ram through an extremist agenda that includes investigations and impeachment, cutting and running in the War on Terror, and turning back the clock on tax relief and job growth.
The danger is great and the stakes are high - but the chance that YOU will be the deciding factor is greater than ever.
Gorette's Diary:
The GOP Letter to Its Base:
It's an honor to be called an extremist these days, don't you think? Personally I am delighted to learn that the GOP admits we are fearsome. It's been quite a while I'd wager, since the Republicans put out a fundraising letter that gave as its main trigger the "extremist" Democrats!
Personally, I like the idea of DEMOCRATS "ramming through" legislation! OUR agenda, for a change.
I love that they are afraid that we would first lauch "investigations and impeachment." If they did not think there was any reason for impeachment, any quite plausible grounds for the offense, then they would not feature it in their fundraising/volunteer-tapping letter.
They put this before the other two issues! So they must be pretty worried. But if they watched this site they can see it is not a hot topic here. Seldom does an impeachment diary appear and get much traffic at dkos.
More from the letter:
We've seen it before. The media and the pundits predict big Democratic victories on Election Day - and then are shocked when Republicans turn out in record numbers, bringing victory to our candidates from the White House to the courthouse.
The reason Republicans can win is volunteers like YOU. You knock on the doors. You make the phone calls. You make sure that every voter who shares our principles gets to the polls on Election Day. In 100 days, we face another decisive test - the midterm elections that will set the America's course for the final two years of the Bush presidency and beyond.
From now until Election Day, the Republican Party is planning an unprecedented volunteer push with phone banks, neighborhood walks, registration drives, and more. Once again, your help will be what makes the difference.
Every little bit helps - whether it's two hours at a phone bank, spending a Saturday afternoon walking your precinct, or helping at a rally. Research has shown that the most effective way to reach an undecided voter is through a volunteer like you. Take the next step to helping us win in 2006.
Let us hear from you today.
Sincerely,
Michael DuHaime

Curious
It is amazing to me that in this week of oppressive news about the new Mideast Israeli/Lebanon war and the Iraq and Afganistan Occupations that what the GOP mentions first is "investigations and impeachment" as the main reason for voting Republican in November 2006.
The danger of these wars certainly dominates the headlines and is cause of a lot of anxiety around the world. But they are worried about impeachment and the GOP looking bad. We are concerned about our soldiers, our hardworking and courageous troops over in Iraq and Afganistan especially who are sacrificing greatly to serve the country.
But the Republicans are worried about appearances, about their own image, more than they are worried about our troops. It is a disgusting letter.
What They Don't Want the GOP to Think About:
They bring up the WOT because they believe their own terrorism hype. They accuse Democrats of a "cutting and running" policy in the War on Terror! Typical dumb statement. They don't want people to dwell on the failures and incompetence of the Bu$hco/Rethug administration and how they have made us less safe than we were. Well, we think about the reasons for staying in Iraq, the probable future, the toll on Iraqis, but most of all the role of our troops. We wonder when they should leave because their presence is counterproductive. All they think about is the threat to their own asses.
They don't want their base to think about the day of reckoning. You know the one. When our troops leave Iraq and terrorists have their new, better, convenient training fields all to themselves. You know, all the new ones that were not there before the Republican/Bu$h bad war took us there. They don't want to have their base think about the civil war that Bu$h and the Rethugs brought about.
They also don't want their tax breaks taken away of course, and that's the only other issue they address. I'm sure they do not want to remind their fellow Rethugs about the high gas prices, the stagnant wages and rising prices, the long list of Bu$hco failures, the corrupt do-nothing Congress with its record short session. They will not want people to remember that their rights have diminished, that the president has dumped the Constitution into the toilet, and that their calls, credit/financial behavior and emails are being monitored. They do not want them to think about the housing market already tanking.
That's why they kept it short and simple I guess.
This year they are afraid of investigations and impeachment first and foremost. It's interesting that they mention investigations first. They must think there is a lot to hide or they would not worry about such things.
And isn't it interesting that they have nothing to attack the Democrats for?
