CAFTA, and the Patriot Act.
I gather, from reading WaitingForLefty's
We are HOURS away from disaster, that the House vote on CAFTA will take place first.
I don't know Congressmen as well as I do Senators. Familiar with any votes that are likely to swing? Any persuadable and/or moderate Republicans? Any Democrats that need to be kicked in the head a little? (Kudos to my new Rep., John Salazar, and his piece in the Rocky today.)
And DO NOT forget about the Patriot Act. Of course, you'd expect the House to pass it, controlled as it is by Dennis "Lockstep" Hastert. But, *call your Senators.* Especially those ones who pride themselves on being defenders of civil liberties.
Call also, of course, the moderates: Specter, Snowe, Collins, the two from Ohio, etc. Hagel as well, for he was the one who dared question the war. You know the drill.
Maybe, most of all... you could challenge the Senators to actually READ the legislation this time around.
It's an awful lot of balls to juggle at once. But juggle we must, if we are to avoid letting something evil sneak by us.
After all, unlike the Republicans, WE do not believe in setting the American people up to sacrifice one essential thing for the vain promise of another.
