A large number of Chicagoans are soliciting contributions of water, clothes, batteries, and baby and leaving for Louisiana tomorrow. This is to make the dKos community aware of that.

We have found three different drop off zones
throughout the city. What we need to do now is get our people and trucks mobilized. So, I will give you the locations, and I will give contact info for each of these locations. If you are interested in helping at a certain location you need to contact the person in charge of that location. You need to tell them when you are available, will you have a vehicle to load with supplies, if so how big, and how many people
are going to help in your group. THe locations are:
South Suburbs:
St. John Fischer is located on 103rd. st. 2 blocks
east of California.
Actual address is 10234 S. Washtenaw. That puts it
between Western and Kedzie on 103rd st.
Access off I-57 from the 99th street and 111th street exits.

(I-90/94) to the North Avenue exit.
Proceed east on North Avenue to Elston, then go north (left) on Elston a few blocks to Wabansia, and turn right. If you reach Armitage, on Elston, you've gone too far.

More good news.
I have recently gotten off the phone with a women in LA. She is in charge of a volunteer group down there. We have been corresponding via email for a few days. Her phone finally works. This is where we will be taking our supplies. The name of this place is:
The First United Methodist Church
This is just east of Shreveport.
It is in a town called Minden LA 71055
She has assured me that everything we bring is needed. Especially water, and baby things. She also said that we would have a place to stay. They are builing a tent city where we are welcome. This is near Caney Lake. Her church has sent down a number of busses this afternoon to NO to pick people up. THey need us ASAP!!!!! People can stay as long as they want. one day, one week, whatever.
