A week ago, I made the plunge and decided to start my own website (it's focused on class actions). I've blogged before, running a website on Connecticut Politics for two months using blogger. And I've used Moveable Type for another political website.
But, damn, if those programs are easy to use, then Scoop is a real pain in the butt. I'm also not the only one who thinks so: check out this diary entry to Scoop: http://scoop.kuro5hin.org/displaystory/2004/3/5/205814/7493
No one -- and I mean no one -- from Scoop is responding to our concerns. I've even offer to pay people but no one responds. Why I can't even pay people to tell me how to use this program is beyond me. Why are they designing it if not to get people to use it?
At one point today, I was just about ready to cancel everything because I've read about other users spending an "inordinate amount of time" try to make the program work.
I'm glad that kos can figure it out, and the concept is really great (so i'm not totally negative about it). But the people who design scoop need to think about it from the perspective of the average customer, not the perspective of the average computer programer.
Anyway, this is just a warning to all of the people who see the great community that Kos has built and think that you'd like the same thing. Don't count on Scoop. I'd start with Moveable Type or even Blogger.
But criminey, if anyone out there wants to help me learn the program, please email me. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee....
