For the other C-Span addicts out there, there's a fascinating piece on right now about the Iowa Caucuses which really gives an interesting snapshot of the vibes of the different campaigns. It's all entirely subjective, since a couple video clips can't capture what's truly going on, but the images certainly do seem to match up with the CW here on dKos about the different campaigns. Check it out when they rerun it, if you're so inclined.
They showed the Perfect Storm headquarters for Dean, full of incredibly enthusiastic youngsters getting training in phone-banking. They also talked to a couple of other folks including the state coordinator, an intense young Irish (!?) guy who flew over to take part in the fray, and a state senator from Maryland who proudly cliamed to be the first state senator in MD to endorse Dean. The most impressive little clip was with an 81-year-old man named Bill Margolis, who had driven 13 hours in a snowstorm from Detroit in order to trudge through the snow and cold to knock on doors, asking people to caucus for Dean. He wasn't having much success, but boy was he inspiring.
They showed the Kerry campaign HQ, with veterans phone-banking for JFK, including a number of vets who served with him in Vietnam. It seems considerably less boisterous than the Dean camp, and the supporter demographic skews toward the middle-aged and male (though that could be b/c of the vets who were there that day). There was a rather excruciating segment with Diana Kerry, JFK's sister, trying to find people to talk to in an Iowa highschool. She's apparently a former highschool-teacher and seems a perfectly nice woman, but painfully awkward with some of the Kerryesque hauteur that made it really difficult to connect with people. I wanted her to do well, but it sure was hard to watch.
They're about to show a town meeting with Edwards, and the place looks pretty packed (he's running late to the event). A good sign for him, no doubt.
Didn't see if they showed Gephardt's operation.
