(Cross-posted from The Blog Roundup).
Amidst all the shocking revelations that the White House credentialed a man who is a pornographer, a homosexual rent boy and a blatant conservative shill, there are those who are outraged, yes outraged that the left wing blogosphere would dare to intrude on someone's personal life simply to make political hay.
Yes, I remember the blue dress. Yes, I remember the Starr report with all it's sordid details of cigars and blowjobs. Yes, I remember a man being impeached in public and humiliated in private by all his weaknesses as a human being. Not that anyone else in this world on the right wing side of the fence has ever had such weaknesses; no, Rush, no, Paul, no, Jack...
The sheer hypocrisy resonating throughout the media over this whole story is astounding. I care not one whit about Jeff Gannon's / Jim Guckert's sexual orientation. I don't care that he's a common whore in a country where such activities are illegal. I don't care that he liked to create web sites where he displayed his pride and pudenda to the world. I don't even care that he's a bad journalist.
I care that he was given access to the highest and most prestigious reporting assignment in this land (and don't you dare, Scotty McClellan, try to deny that you knew all about him). I care that he may have been illegally fed information which assisted the outing of a CIA agent. I care that he might have been credentialed because, like Armstrong Williams, he's a paid conservative shill with close links to Bush's friends. But most of all, I care because I can't stand the screaming, reeking hypocrisy of the whole sordid affair. Digby says it all:
And has it ever been logical that this nobody from a vanity web site would get access to the Plame story? Why him? JimJeff claims that he never actually saw the Plame memo, yet he clearly knew of it. Could it have been pillow talk?
I don't have a clue. But, I do know that if this were 1998, we'd be knee deep in congressional investigations into the gay hooker ring in the White House. Every news crew in the DC area would be camped out on JimJeff's front lawn. A wild-eyed Victoria Toensing and panting Kelly Ann Fitzpatrick would be crawling up on the Hardball desk rending their silk teddies and speaking in tongues while Matthews'exploding head spun around on his shoulders.
But, it isn't 1998 and it will probably not even be mentioned. And I'm not a Republican so I don't think, as they would, that it's necessary to dig into every single White House staffer's sex life to find out who leaked a confidential memo to a gay hooker.
As a Democrat, however, if gay hookers are running around the White House I do find it somewhat frustrating that we have to put up with this shock and horror bullshit from the right wing about average Joe and Jane gay person wanting to get married and have a family. Please.
Absolutely. What else is there to say? Nothing, at least until the next layer of this story is uncovered...
