The emotions toward Kerry among his supporters and haters are surprisely similar to those toward Bush.
In This Globe Article, Brian McGrory mocks:
But a funny thing happened on the way to the nomination. Kerry collapsed. Howard Dean soared. Richard A. Gephardt found something of a voice. All of which means, if things stay as they are now, that one week in July may well be the most humiliating experience of Kerry's political career.
His epic downfall, which has taken him from the cover of news magazines early this year to an afterthought these days, has an almost Shakespearean quality to it. But if the campaign has been rough, the convention could prove downright cruel.
Kerry's Louisburg Square townhouse is 1.1 miles from the FleetCenter, even shorter as the crow flies. At convention time, if the organizers were to place loudspeakers on Causeway Street, Kerry could sit in his back garden and listen to Dean speak.
Indeed, every time he leaves his mansion that week, he is likely to see things the opposite of what they were supposed to be. The Hollywood celebrities who were to add glitter to his campaign will be putting their star power behind someone else. The Iowa delegates who were supposed to give him a running start will barely acknowledge his existence. The New Hampshire supporters who were to be his stalwarts will look the other way when he comes into the room.
On the other hand, the frenzy among his supporters is no less than that among Dean supporters, sometimes, It's even more insane.
Instead of helping their candidate to fight for his survival, they're discussing whether he should choose a female vice president and who he should choose? It seems these guys are living in bubble. One of his supporters says:" I don't think it's a question of female or not, I think it's a question of the right female in either the VP or P slot. Given that this election will be heavily involved with foreign policy, and the only female foreign policy titan I can think of is Albright, I think the pickings are just too slim. If Kerry picked a female VP in that context, it would be an ".
So who do some people love him so much? He's almost a God to them. Who do some people hate him so much? They'd like to constantly trash him.
It's interesting that I showed the six serious candidates' pics to some Canadian guys who knew nothing about American politics and asked them to rule out the possible nominees. Most of them immediately picked up Kerry and Lieberman since their immediate reaction was these two guys did not look 'presidential'.
But In American papers, Journalists constantly commends Kerry's a handsome guy. So what the truth? Why do you hate him? Why do you like him?
