How Much Did Bush Give the AARP?... Because he and the AARP could really give a Rat's A** about our seniors; they put their signature on this mess and sold their souls instead of watching out for the health and welfare of seniors. It will cost us ALL in this country.
Let's see....
73 Cards from which to choose. Some cover some medications, some do not. Some cover certain pharmacies, some do not. Some will not cover medication out of your state of residence, some will. Some will not cover any additional medications prescribed. Some cost up to $30 a year just for having them. Some do not have an annual fee.
Pharmacies can change their prices weekly. WITHOUT NOTIFYING ANYONE. So, what you bought one week may not be the same price the next. You won't know that unless you phone up or come in to get your medication. And, some of the prices listed up on the Medicare website are incorrect.
If you have questions, you can view Medicare's website (many seniors don't have nor use computers....) or call Medicare's 800# with a wait time running about 20 minutes (even after they upped their customer service employees - at the cost to all taxpayers.)
Oh, and then the cards will put more financial strain on Independent Pharmacies. Pharmacies, whether huge chains or mom-and-pop operations, are required to pick up part of the cost of the card program, which is the first part of the government's new prescription-drug program. With narrow markups and a greater reliance on drug sales than their chain competitors, one-store pharmacies say the program will make it harder for them to turn a profit.
