After a tea bag party in Austin Wednesday, Texas Governor Rick Perry told reporters that while doesn’t currently support secession, he does believes that the state has the right to secede.
Perry warned that "if Washington continues to thumb their nose," then "who knows what might come out of that."
While Texans probably don't approve of Perry's radical talk, the tea baggers do -- yesterday, they cheered lustily when Glenn Beck and Greta van Susteren talked about the prospects for Texas seceding.
Last week, Governor Perry declared Texas’ sovereignty from what he called the "oppressive" United States government.
Here’s a transcript of the video:
QUESTION: What do you think about the idea of secession or sovereignty for your state?
PERRY: Oh, I think there’s a lot of different scenarios. Texas is a unique place. When we came into the Union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.
My hope is that America, and Washington in particular, pays attention. We’ve got a great Union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it.
But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what might come out of that.
